Rhetorical Questions:
Who is deemed worthy to serve as a leader among us, to be ‘the boss?’ In the workplace, in our communities, in our home, everywhere there is an authority figure dictating how things get done.
How did they earn that position, was it through ethics & hard work?
Are they responsible stewards of the Earth on behalf of all creatures, & if not, why not? Are they kind to people in their place of work?
Have they spoken openly & honestly about Ai/automation & their vision for the future of work?
Has your company already started selling Ai solutions but not spoken to the colleagues doing the very jobs their product seeks to replace?
Are people afraid to ask hard questions for fear of being screamed at or losing their job? Are people able to speak up if someone says the word ‘pause’ does not mean stop?
Do they afford the lowest paid workers a voice in how the business works? Are improvements to the internal tools considered as important as the customer facing ones?
Are they capable of having difficult conversations during challenging times, do they radiate false positivity in the face of bad press? Are they traveling or generally unavailable for team meetings? Do they speak in platitudes? Do they engender trust? Do they show up briefly to ‘rally the troops’ only when things are looking good?
Describe the value they bring to the company in terms that don’t mention ‘solid growth’ or ‘ability to disrupt?’ These words have been lionized by industry, but they keep forgetting to include the words ‘zero sum’.
Are they able to learn from those around them, or are they defending the current state of things? Do they say things like ‘this is the way the firm operates’ or ‘‘command & control.’
Can they look you in the eyes? Know you have a dog? Speak Spanish at home?
